We exist to promote and encourage singers of all abilities. If you've sung in a choir, are familiar with sight reading music essentials, are 16 years or older, and have a desire to improve your voice, you'll find a great family in Chorale Coeur d'Alene. We have parts for men and women in the Chorale and ensembles and solos if you're looking to share and improve your talents.
All new members, as part of the registration process, will need to audition with the Artistic Director, and a panel of representatives from each section. The audition assesses music reading skills and pitch recognition and also includes a short interview.
Existing chorale members, returning after an absence for whatever reason, should expect to re-audition as part of the registration process unless this requirement is waived by the Artistic Director or Section Leader.
You do not need to prepare anything specific for the audition/vocal screening. This process is designed to assess your vocal skills and a positive and affirming way. During your time with the audition team, expect the following:
1. General warmup to assess tone, timbre, and vocal weight
2. Check of range (high and low) and vocal agility
3. Singing a well-known song (Amazing Grace, The Star Spangled Banner, or My Country ’Tis of Thee) in a comfortable key of your choosing.
4. Tonal memory (repeating short musical patterns played on the piano)
5. Sight reading a short line of music (on neutral syllables, solfège, numbers, etc.)
Our auditions are informal, short, and far less intimidating than you'd expect. Try us out! This is a short, 10 minute session where the director and audition team will hear your voice and lead you through some scales to evaluate your vocal range in order to place you in the appropriate section. First semester auditions will begin in August and Spring auditions are held in January. Our auditions are held at Peace Lutheran Church on 8134 N Meyer Road in Post Falls, ID.
The cost is $65 per semester, and scholarships are available. The semester fee is waived for all students, and we particularly encourage students majoring in music to join. Additionally, the fee may be waived for qualified low-income community members at the discretion of the Chorale board.
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9:00PM at Peace Lutheran Church, located at 8134 N Meyer Road in Post Falls, ID. A singer's retreat event is held at the beginning of each semester, typically a Friday evening and Saturday Morning before regular Tuesday night rehearsals resume. We typically sing four multi-performance concerts a season. Our concert year is divided into two semesters: September through December and January through May.
Our attendence policy is three missed rehearsals or less per semester. Retreat dates and Technical Rehearsal dates are mantadory rehearsals.
